Axis lighting

The illumination of a subject from a source located close to the lens.

Axis lighting usually refers to the illumination of a subject from a source located close to the lens.

In medical and scientific photography and recording, axis lighting can also refer to the lighting from the lens axis using light reflected from a partially mirrored glass angled 45 degrees in front of the lens.
