Cave Effect

A visual effect that occurs when all the lighting sources in a scene direct downward, with no light reflecting upward.

A cave effect occurs when all the lighting sources in a scene direct downward, with no light reflecting upward and with little or no light reflected towards the ceiling or upper wall portions. The cave effect is generally unwanted because it makes indoor spaces feel ominous, like the interior of a cavern.
