Control signal

A special signal recorded onto the videotape at the same time a video signal is being recorded.

In VCR technology, a control signal is a special signal recorded onto the videotape at the same time a video signal is being recorded. The control signal is used during playback as a reference by the servo circuits.

In the data communications world, a control signal is a pulse or frequency of electricity or light that typically travels the same path as the data, either as separate packets or contained within the data packets. However, some control signals are sent over separate channels.
