Creepy-crawlies

The nickname of video image artifacts native to the NTSC television system.

The name creepy-crawlies, sometimes referred to as jaggies, is the nickname of image artifacts native to the NTSC television system. These artifacts appear when a little box containing a picture appears over the anchorperson’s shoulder, or when some computer-generated text shows up on top of the video clip being shown, along the edges of the box, or along the edges of the text. Some people refer to creepy-crawlies as zippers.
