A detent tuner is a channel selector with preset positions, where the detent mechanism determines the correct position by way of physical resistance. It was the most common type of rotary channel tuning interface on old analog television sets. It can still be found on some satellite controllers as well as other similar devices. Detent tuners are sometimes referred to as click-type tuners.
