The Journal
Too busy to watch, listen or learn
You are always one keystroke away from a life-shattering disaster of your own making.

As you probably noticed, the front page of this website still says "under construction." That's because -- you guessed it -- videocide is still under construction. Duh!

That being said, I don't expect the site to ever be "complete": it will be forever in progress. That's how it was designed from the start.

During the last few days, I've been busy transferring part of our assets and digital infrastructure to a different VPS. In order to focus on the multiple tasks at hand, I had to suspend most of our sister and collateral sites down. It was an enormous amount of work, but it was worth the effort. It forced me and the rest of the team to revisit many of our processes and in-house tools. In doing so, we managed to identify a better backlog for future features, and also to fix bugs that went unnoticed since the beginning of this enterprise. Here's a list of the things I've learned (again) during this technology migration sprint:

  1. Everything you do will take 3x as long as your most pessimistic estimate informs you.
  2. Nothing worth doing takes just 5, 10, or even 15 minutes.
  3. We all learn to make mistakes, as much as we learn from the mistakes we made.
  4. DIY takes time and will (probably) not save you much money in the short term.
  5. You are always one keystroke away from a life-shattering disaster of your own making.
  6. Luck has nothing to do with anything.
  7. Lost things always hide in the last place you'll be searching.

Have a great day!
