Ricardo Benet is a Mexican filmmaker and photographer. He is known for his debut feature Noticias Lejanas (2005) and the film Nómadas (2010). After his studies at the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica, Ricardo Benet entered the opera prima contest in 2003, to make "Noticias Lejanas" (Distant News), which he won. The film was shot in the surroundings of the city of Perote, Veracruz, and Mexico City, Mexico. It was two years in the making until its premiere in 2005 at the Guadalajara Film Festival. From there, the film was invited to travel around the world to more than 60 festivals and won 24 awards, including 3 Ariel Awards, Jury Prize in Biarritz 2005, Best Ibero-American Director in Malaga 2007, and Best Film in Mar de Plata 2006.
