To begin as a film editor one must have the industry calling card which amounts to a small reel of film do display talent. This visual resume can be as short as 30 seconds and often the shorter the better. A film of such length often has a simple story: a beginning, middle, and end.
In pursuit of this project one should seek input form all sorts of media. A good editor will know the industry and be a consumer of art. Additionally a good editor must have strengths that all film industry professionals have: active, collaborative, like-ability, a thick skin, uniqueness, and flexibility. The more information and research you have, the more points of view you will have and that will aid your editing thought process. It does not have to be a 5 minute short film - that a huge undertaking….
