How To Create a Hero Image for a YouTube Thumbnail

In this tutorial, we will use the Remove.bg utility to extract a person's picture from its original background and them move it to a hero position on a YouTube thumbnail.

Here's how to do it:

  1. Locate a picture of the person you want to use as a hero on your computer. In this example, we'll use a file named woman.png
  2. Open Remove.bg in your browser and drop the file selected above in the upload area.
  3. Once the file is processed, click the Download button on the result screen of the app. This will download a scaled version of the hero image. For the purpose of a YouTube thumbnail, the preview resolution is likely sufficient.
  4. Look at the downloaded imaged and verify that it doesn't have negative artifacts from the process.
  5. In your thumbnail editor of choice (we're using video-thumbnail-using-designbold/">DesignBold in this example), upload the image and place the new hero image over the thumbnail you want to enhance.
