PicMonkey is an online application that allows you to create design elements without relying on a desktop application. The application is template-based, similar to many similar applications in that space. The free version will store your images in the cloud and offers a wide range of design functions, including effects that are not available in its common competitors. To download your YouTube video thumbnail using PicMonkey, you will need to create an account.

  1. From PicMonkey's main screen, click on DESIGN.
  2. Scroll to the Social Media Header section and click on the YouTube thumbnail option.
  3. Select a template whose layout fits your general needs on the left sidebar.
  4. Modify the elements as desired -- such as the background image and the text elements.
  5. Click the Download button and save the resulting thumbnail to your computer.
