Downloading from Google Fonts

Here's how to download a font from Google Fonts:

  1. Visit the Google Fonts application and filter the available fonts to locate the best one for your particular usage. Here's a selection of fonts for designing YouTube thumbnails.
  2. Click the font you want to download. In our example, we select Montserrat.
  3. Review the documentation for the selected font.
  4. Click the Download link on the top right of the window.
  5. The browser will instantly fetch a zip file of all the related files, including the license and the various font files necessary. The file will be stored in your Downloads folder -- the same folder your browser stores every downloaded asset by default.

Note the following:

  • Google fonts are licensed using OFL. They can be used for free on any website or application, for any purpose.
  • Google fonts provide local fonts in TrueType (TTF) format only.
  • You can use Convertio to convert from TTF to OpenType (OTF).
